The Futuro House in Royse City, Texas, is a fascinating example of mid-20th-century architecture, known for its distinctive UFO-like design. Designed by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen in 1968, it was intended as a portable, prefabricated dwelling, embodying the era’s optimism about space and technology. With only about 60 of these structures left globally, it’s a rare sight, located along State Highway 276 in a rural Texas setting.
Despite efforts like a fresh coat of paint in 2019, it remains uninhabitable and gutted, yet it’s beloved as a local landmark, often called "Area 276."
Be careful, the floor is not the original floor and vandals may have shifted the plywood.
